Manchester United v Schalke Preview

Man Utd manager Alex Ferguson

“It is the optimism they (the fans) have got,” acknowledged Sir Alex. “But we don't share that because we feel we have a lot of work to do tomorrow. I think it is very easy to get complacent in modern life, there are many examples of it. But I hope nobody at Manchester United regards it as a formality tomorrow, I certainly will not be.

“I think the work ethic will need to be very high tomorrow, very high, in order for us to qualify (for the final). We know that Schalke have nothing to lose. That is the message he (Schalke coach Ralf Rangnick) will give to his team. I think they will have a go and try to win the match – there is nothing else they can do. Any coach in a semi-final must give his team that chance to try to win the match and I think we'll find that he will have a real go.”

“If you look at the experience of last year when we lost the league, the team were very tired against Chelsea after playing Bayern Munich on the Wednesday,” reflected Sir Alex. “That will have a bearing on my team selection. We've got two massive games, both as important as the other. There will be some changes (against Schalke). Hopefully the nucleus of the team is still good enough to win.”

“It has always been the case at this club that if we lose a game then we have to recover quickly,” said Sir Alex. “We always have work to do in the next match. That is the great beauty of football at least. You always have the next game in which to do something and we've only had to wait three days. That is an important issue for us because it is a part of being a good team, how you can recover from a defeat. The interesting thing about last weekend was that the four (Champions League semi-final) teams all lost (league matches). So European games do take it out of you. I have to pick the right team tomorrow in order to have the same kind of freshness I need for Sunday's match.”

Schalke manager Ralf Rangnick

“We have already made the miracle of Milan.”

“Whether we can repeat the story in England, one can not say in advance of course. But one thing I can promise. We will give everything for it .”

“We want to take our chance, even if it is still so small.”

“We have nothing to lose.”

“We will play also on the psychological side prepare and give the players that we have a chance at getting ahead.”

“We’ve also done before the battle with Inter Milan so.”

“If Bene fit, he will play.”

“A decision will be made after the completion of training.”

“He (Huntelaar) has not played for almost ten weeks. Most likely he will be in the squad, but he is probably only for a short-term use in question.”

Inverness v Celtic – Preview, Prediction, TV Listings, and Betting Odds – SPL – 4 May 2011

Celtic can go top of the Scottish Premier League with a win as they travel to face 7th place Inverness. The match will take place at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium in Inverness, Scotland on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. Kickoff is scheduled for 18:00 BST (UK time), 19:00 CET (Central Europe), and 13:00 EST (USA Eastern).

Inverness v Celtic TV Listings

It will be televised on ESPN (UK) and SportKlub+ (SE Europe).

Inverness v Celtic Preview

Inverness CT manager Terry Butcher:

“They are on a bit of a surge. I have been in that position before at Rangers, going for titles.

“Momentum is built up, Celtic can see the finishing line, same as Rangers, and they want to get there first obviously.

“They can go top of the league if they beat us and their fans will be looking forward to it, but we have our own agenda.

“We had a bad performance at Aberdeen on Saturday. We’ve been informing players about their futures here.

“It’s probably not the best preparation for the game, telling players they are not going to be at the club after May, but the Celtic game takes care of itself no matter what is happening.”

Celtic manager Neil Lennon:

“Inverness had a great run before Christmas where they were right in the top six for a long time.

“As is the case with clubs with smaller squads, the season bites them a little bit. If they lose a couple of their bigger players they tend to miss that quality.

“But Terry has done a fantastic job and the away record has been exemplary.

“It’s always a tough stadium for us to go to. We have messed up a couple of times there over the years, so we have to be at our best but the players know that.

“I think they are pretty focused on what is ahead of them, a different type of football that we have to overcome.”
